Schoolfield Bank

In 1955, this commercial bank building took the place of Park Place Grocery Store and Schoolfield Furniture and Hardware Company. The building shows the influence of the International Style, popular in the post-WWII era with its smooth brick façade, lack of ornament, and flat roof. The building was home to the Schoolfield Industrial Loan Corporation, which had been founded in 1951 with its first offices housed above the post office in the Front building next door on West Main Street. Later, the bank corporation became known as the Schoolfield Bank and Trust until it closed and was replaced by various banks, with BB&T being the last owner of the building until that bank closed its Schoolfield branch in 2015.

This early ad from an October 22, 1955 Bee paper shows the original facade of Schoolfield Bank & Trust.
